Supervisory Board

Oikocredit International’s operations are managed by a two-tier board. The Supervisory Board oversees the company and an executive board, the Managing Board, handles the day-to-day operations. Members of the Supervisory Board are elected to hold office for a period of three years and are eligible for re-election for one term.

Current position: Social Entrepreneur & Financial Management Consultant.

Joseph L. Patterson was elected to Oikocredit’s Supervisory Board on 15 June 2017. He provides financial leadership in Canada, Jamaica and the UK and is the Founder-President of PCG International Inc., a small cap venture financing and management consulting firm. Mr Patterson also serves as the Financial Controller for the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) which has members in over 120 countries and promotes communication as a basic human right for social justice. Mr Patterson is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with a Bachelor of Accounting Science degree and more than 20 years’ experience in business, finance and leadership. Mr Patterson is currently Co-Chair of the Banking & Finance Committee for the 2018 Parliament of the World’s Religions (Toronto, Canada) and has served on numerous not-for-profit and private sector boards. He is also the Founder-President of both the United Independents’ Congress of Jamaica and the Youth Enterprise Society of Jamaica.

Cheryl Jackson has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Oikocredit since 20 June 2019. With 10 years of inflow network experience with the Suisse Romande Oikocredit support association in Switzerland, Ms Jackson brings a support association perspective to the board.

In her time as a volunteer with Oikocredit Suisse Romande, she also served for six years as a member of the Oikocredit Network Coordination Committee. Her professional career in the US was as a legal and tax adviser to small businesses.

Cheryl holds a master’s degree in tax law from Georgetown University Law Centre and a juris doctor degree from the University of Florida College of Law. Her first degree was in business administration from the University of Florida.

Current position: Agriculture Impact Investing Consultant.

Gaëlle Bonnieux has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Oikocredit since 20 June 2019. With over 13 years’ international experience in impact investing and agriculture, she is an adviser to investors on generating financial and impact returns through investment in sustainable agriculture supply chains.

Gaëlle was head of Agriculture Debt Investments at ResponsAbility Investments where she managed two large funds. Previously she has held positions at PlaNet Investment Services, Max Havelaar and BAOBAB.

Gaëlle holds an MBA from the ESSCA School of Management, as well as a master’s in finance from the ESSEC Business School in France.

Dr Tsitsi Dozwa-Choruma

Current position: Commissioner in the Public Service Commission of Zimbabwe.

Currently Dr Dozwa-Choruma is a member of the Public Service Commission tasked with reforming the Zimbabwe Civil Service. Prior to this she was CEO for Fairtrade in Africa, tasked with promoting agriculture and trade across Africa and the Middle East. Before working with Fairtrade Africa she worked as Global Gender Adviser for Fairtrade International, regional and country director with Oxfam, ActionAid and Progressio. Dr Dozwa-Choruma is currently a board member of: Graca Machel Trust and the Zimbabwe Organisation for Policy Analysis and Development.

Dr Dozwa-Choruma holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Seattle University and an MPA from the University of Zimbabwe.

Myrtille Danse

Current position: Director Latin America and the Caribbean, Hivos.

Myrtille Danse has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Oikocredit since 20 June 2019. She joined the Netherlands Food Partnership in 2020, where she leads the organisation’s work to boost transformative approaches for sustainable food systems and healthy diets in low- and middle-income countries. Myrtille previously worked for five years as director for Latin America and the Caribbean at Hivos, an international humanist organisation that strives for a free, fair and sustainable world.

 

Her experience working for the private sector, international organisations, the semi-public sector and research institutes enables Myrtille to mediate between these social actors and develop successful new value propositions and inclusive innovations. As a manager she is interested in organisational innovations, such as self-steering teams, holacracy (decentralised management) and global impact networks.

Myrtille is also an executive committee member of the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE). She holds an MBA from Erasmus University Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

Current position: Board Director and internet entrepreneur.

Mr Gupta has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Oikocredit since 20 June 2019. He has worked at CEO level in financial services, payments, fintech and retail internet. He is a board director at the Indian life insurance joint venture with Prudential Financial of the US.

During his executive career Mr Gupta has served as CEO for MasterCard South Asia, President of GE Capital India and President of Rediff.com, one of Asia’s earliest internet companies. As President of Rediff.com, he helped lead the company to its successful listing on the Nasdaq. He began his corporate career at Unilever India. As a technology entrepreneur, Mr Gupta is a co-founder of Faircent, India’s first P2P lending company. He was also cofounder of Lets Buy, one of India’s early e-commerce start-ups.

Mr Gupta holds an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, a law degree and an honour’s degree in economics.

Maya Mungra

Current position: Financial Inclusion & Risk Management Consultant.

Ms Mungra has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Oikocredit since 20 June 2019. She has over 20 years of experience in audit, finance, corporate governance, risk management and compliance.

She started her professional career in the financial services practice of EY and has held senior management positions at ABN Amro Bank, ASR Nederland and Oikocredit International. Ms Mungra also served on the board of the Micro Insurance Association Netherlands and on the advisory board of Oikocredit’s Dutch support association. She is currently a trustee board member and chair of the finance, and audit committee of FrontlineAids, a UK-based international NGO.

Ms Mungra holds a master’s degree in economics and a post master’s degree ‘Registeraccountant’ of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, as well as professional qualifications as certified internal auditor and certified fraud examiner.

Current position: Fintech advisor and non-executive

Gaston Aussems has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Oikocredit since June 2021. He is a trusted advisor and non-executive in fintech and a partner with several venture capital firms.

From 2013 to 2020 Gaston was CEO of Mollie, a European payment service provider focused on making enterprise-level financial services available and affordable to SMEs and smaller merchants. At Mollie he was responsible for scaling up the organisation, product development, finance, legal, commerce, human resources and relationships with supervisory bodies.

Gaston previously worked in various roles in banking and the transactional economy, trade finance, international payments, cash management, financial software, consulting, training and risk management. He holds an MSc in computer sciences and an MBA from Rotterdam School of Management and has participated in the Supervisory Board programme at Nyenrode Business University.
