M-Kopa Holdings Ltd (M-Kopa) was established to make solar electricity accessible to low-income customers, and is regarded as a pioneer of pay-as-you-go (PAYG) financing. The holding company has subsidiaries in Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria which builds on experience going back to 2012. An M-Kopa customer is typically located in off-grid rural and peri-urban areas.

M-Kopa was founded in 2017 and first partnered with Oikocredit in 2020.
