Manos del Uruguay is a non-profit social organization and partner of Oikocredit. Established in 1968, Manos del Uruguay dyes wool, designs and knits garments for the local and international market and for renowned international brands like Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Donna Karan and Chanel.

It receives part of its wool from Central Lanera Uruguaya and has been fair trade certified since 2009. Manos aims to generate and develop work for women across the country and provide economic, social and cultural opportunities for all its members.
Manos del Uruguay is made up of 13 cooperatives that bring together 250 craftswomen throughout the country. It has a service centre in Montevideo (90 employees) that provides the cooperatives with:
- product design
- raw materials
- technical training
- machinery maintenance
- sale of production
- training and advice for the cooperative’s directors
Manos del Uruguay pays its members not only for the products, but also for social security and expenses. It has an annual sales turnover of approximately US$ 5 million.
Manos del Uruguay has been a partner of Oikocredit since 2009 and currently has a US$ 400,000 credit line.
