Asociación Chajulense Va’l Vaq Quyol (Chajul) is a small coffee producers association founded in 1988 and based in San Gaspar Chajul. It processes and exports high-quality organic coffee and offers ecotourism services. Chajul’s high-quality coffee sells at premium prices with profits passed on to members to help them improve their livelihoods.
Chajul currently works with more than 1,300 small coffee producers in the Ixil region and has more than 30 staff (2017). It is managed by a board of directors, composed of members, which is re-elected every three years during the general assembly.
The association is rooted in an initiative of smallholder coffee producers to help local farmers improve their incomes. It offers farmers advice on how improve the quality of their products. All members are organic- and fair trade-certified.
Asociación Chajulense Va’l Vaq Quyol has been an Oikocredit partner since 1991.
