The city that almost touches the sky

The city that almost touches the sky

It takes more than an hour to fly from Santa Cruz to Nuestra Señora de La Paz, commonly known as La Paz. Many people do not know that El Alto, where the airport is located, and La Paz are two different cities because they are adjacent. The sky is blue, the sun burns all while the mountains surround the altiplano (plateau).

Views of La Paz

El Alto airport is located at 4,000 m above sea level. This makes visitors face an unwanted experience: the sorojchi or altitude sickness, which of course I will not miss. Unfortunately due to altitude sickness I had to skip the first visit to Oikocredit’s partner SAITE that processes and commercializes quinoa, sesame, amaranth, and other local products. It’s a shame as I was really looking forward to it.
