Time flies while you’re preparing for a trip to Bolivia! Today we will fly to Santa Cruz, one of the fastest growing cities in the world. The Oikocredit study tour will officially kick-off on Sunday, 11 May, however there is still a lot to prepare on site.

Many will have read the beautiful story about the country of quinoa on our website. Now we have the opportunity to visit this special country ourselves. There will be 15 people from Austria, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom participating in the Bolivian study tour.

We all want to learn about how Oikocredit works with Bolivian partner organizations and what the effects are on end-clients in the country. We also want to understand how microfincance works in the context of a poor but rapidly changing country. In Bolivia we will be supported by the regional office for Southern South America (SASR) and by the marvellous staff from Oikocredit’s Bolivia office.

I wonder how the group will deal with the differences in climate. While Santa Cruz lies in the tropical part of Bolivia at 400 m above sea level, we will also visit a partner located 4,000 m above sea level near the capital, La Paz.

I am leaving the Netherlands with many questions and hope to have most of them answered by the time I return. Together with the other participants we want to keep our followers informed about our experiences. For the first time, a study tour will be covered across various social media platforms as well as four different blogs in Dutch, German and English. The hashtag for facebook and twitter is #oikocreditontour. You can also follow the twitter feed on the sidebar of this blog.

We look forward to sharing our experiences and hope to interact with you, dear readers, through this blog and the channels mentioned above. Feel free to leave a comment below.
